Frequently Asked Questions about InfoWest Voice

As with any new technology, we have been asked many very good questions about how the service works, what changes need to be made, etc. We hope to answer a few of these below, but as always, feel free to call us. We'd be glad to answer any questions you have.

  • Q: I presently have another Internet service provider, and if I were to go to InfoWest phone service (via my other provider), would it work?
    • A: Yes. InfoWest Voice works with any high speed broadband connection.
  • Q: Can I keep my present phone number?
    • A: Yes. There is a one-time $10.00 number porting charge that you will see on the in the sign-up or quote form.
  • Q: How long does it take to get started?
    • A: Typically the service takes 3-5 days to install, but a little longer if we port an existing number. In our experience so far, it takes around 10 days to get your number ported over from Qwest.
  • Q: How much does it cost to have InfoWest install the service for me at my home?
    • A: Typically $75.00. We will provide a bid if there are special circumstances or unusual wiring situations.
  • Q: How about business lines? Is this only for residential?
    • A: For now, we are only offering residential lines. We do plan to launch business lines in the near future. Business lines are a bit more complicated and we have much more testing and development to have the product ready for prime time.
  • Q: Does this work with FAX?
    • A: We don't recommend using InfoWest Voice for sending or receiving FAXes. Many FAX machines work fine with the service, but others others do not. Use at your own risk.
  • Q. How much it cost to make international telephone calls using InfoWest Voice?
    • A: International calling is not yet available with InfoWest Voice. It is currently disabled. Once international calling service becomes available and the per-minute rates are published, we will enable it.
  • Q: You say that it has Caller ID. Can you have it show my name on other people's phones when I call them? I ask because I am with Vonage now and that would be one thing that vonage doesn't have now.
    • A: Yes. With InfoWest Voice, parties receiving calls from you should snow your name and number. Caller ID works for both incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Q: I want to use this part of the year, but will be moving for another part of the year. (I am a snowbird.) Can I suspend the service and turn it back on when I'm back?
    • A: There is a $20 fee to reinstate service if it gets suspended. But with InfoWest Voice, you might not need to suspend your service. Just take the service with you to your new location (provided you have high speed Internet at that location)! InfoWest Voice service can go with you wherever you have broadband access. (Always remember to update your e911 address information whenever you relocate your InfoWest Voice service.)

When you place the order, you can add a second virtual number that is a local call at the other place you will be living. Your phone will ring no matter which number is called. For example, you can have a St. George area local number (435) 555-1234 and a Salt Lake area local number (801) 555-5678. No matter where you have installed your InfoWest Voice service, your phone will ring, no matter which number is called.

As long a caller use the number that is local for him or her, it is a local call. You can be local wherever you have a virtual number. This makes virtual numbers very handy if you have family or friends in another U.S. city or town and you want them to be able to call you as a local call.

There is a $5.00/month charge for each virtual number you add to your service.

REMEMBER: Always remember to update your e911 address information immediately, as soon you move your InfoWest Voice service from one physical location to another. If you forget to do so, emergency response personnel might respond at the wrong location.
  • Q: Is there a warranty on the Linksys ATA's?
    • A: Yes. There is a one year factory warranty on the ATA's.
  • Q: What will the total bill be after all the taxes and surcharges and stuff?
    • A: What you see on your quote is what you will be billed for. You can get a no-obligation quote at any time. There are currently no other taxes or surcharges that don't show up on the quote: e911 ($1.99/mo), activation ($10), number port charge ($10), plus other options they may choose. Of course, if the government in the future mandates additional charges, we will need to pass those on.
  • Q: Does InfoWest Phone work on my DSL line?
    • A: It will work with DSL, but if you port the line over that already has DSL on it, you may lose your DSL service. Please give us a call so we can make some recommendations on ways to keep your service up and running without interruption, and we may even be able to recommend less-expensive, faster solutions in the process.
  • Q: Will my phone number be published in my local phone book? Will a new number that I get from you be published in the local phone book?
    • A: In most areas, if the number is currently already listed in the phone book, it will stay in the book when ported to InfoWest Voice. For new telephone numbers in most areas, there will be a one-time $10.00 fee to add directory listing.
