Backbone
- A backbone is a high-speed line or series of connections that forms a major pathway within a network.
-
Bandwidth
- Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data that can travel a communications path in a given time, usually measured in bits per second. If you think of the communications path as a pipe, then bandwidth represents the width of the pipe that determines how much data can flow through it all at once.
-
Bit
- Short for binary digit, a bit is the smallest unit of data a computer can handle. Bits are used in various combinations to represent different kinds of data. Each bit has a value of 0 or 1.
-
Bitmap
- A bitmap is a collection of pixels that creates an image. A bitmap can be of various bit-depths and resolutions. In a bitmap, each pixel is recorded in the file, which makes bitmap images very detailed. Most bitmaps are converted to a JPEG, TIFF or GIF after they have been created to decrease the file size so they can be more easily viewable on the web, or sent through email, while maintaining their quality.

Blog
- Blog is short for Weblog. A blog is a webpage that is easily able to be updated by the person who runs the webpages. Most blogs take the form of a daily journal of events in a person's life. - Bookmarks are a function in Netscape Navigator, Mozilla Suite, and Mozilla Firefox, ans some other web-browsers. Bookmarking a site stores a reference to that site on your computer, which you can then click on later to get to that site. In some web browsers, such as Internet Explorer, bookmarks are referred to as "Favorites".
-
Bps
- Abbreviation for bytes per second (Bps). Bps and it's larger counterpart, KBps (kilobytes per second), are common measurements of download and upload bandwidth in web browsers and other programs. Bytes per second should not be confused with bps (bits per second).
-
Browser
- Short for Web browser. A Web browser is a a software application that is used to locate and display Web pages. The two most popular browsers are Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Both of these are graphical browsers, which means that they can display graphics as well as text. In addition, all modern browsers can present multimedia information, including sound and video.
-
Byte
- Abbreviation for binary term, a unit of storage capable of holding a single character. On almost all modern computers, a byte is equal to 8 bits.
-
bps
- Abbreviation for "bits per second". bps, and it's larger counterpart Kbps are the standard measurement of bandwidth on an internet connection. Don't confuse bps for Bps (bytes per second). You can calculate the bps of a download by multiplying the Bps number you get from a web browser by 8, since there are 8 bits in a byte.
