 HTML

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. HTML is a language used to create, or "mark up" a hypertext file. All webpages on the internet are stored and transferred in HTML format, or the newer XHTML format.

 HTTP

HTTP stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol -- the method used to transfer hypertext files across the Internet. On the World Wide Web, pages written in HTML use hypertext to link to other documents. When you click on hypertext, you jump to another web page, sound file, or graphic. Hypertext transfer is simply the transfer of hypertext files from computer to computer. Hypertext transfer protocol is the set of standards used by computers to transfer hypertext files (web pages) over the Internet.

 Hacker

Hacker is a slang term for a technically sophisticated computer user who enjoys exploring computer systems and programs, sometimes to the point of obsession.

 Hits

This term refers to the number of files that are downloaded from a web server. Keeping track of hits is a way of measuring traffic to a website that can be misleading. The number of hits a site receives is usually much greater than the number of actual visitors. That's because a web page can contain more than one file. For example, each graphic element is a separate file, so a page with nine graphics would count as ten hits, one for each graphic and one for the HTML file. In this scenario, a page may have 10,000 hits, but only 1,000 visits.

 Home Page

Also referred to as a web page, the home page is the starting point of a Web presentation. It is a sort of table of contents for what is at the website, offering direct links to the different parts of the site
In a web browser, your home page is the page that the browser is set to open when you start the browser.

 Hyperlink

An element in an electronic document that links to another place in the same document or to an entirely different document. Typically, you click on the hyperlink to follow the link. Hyperlinks are the most essential ingredient of all hypertext systems, including the World Wide Web.

 Hypertext

Hypertext usually refers to any text available on the World Wide Web that contains links to other documents. The use of hypertext is a way of presenting information in which text, sounds, images, and actions are linked together in a way that allows you to jump around between them in whatever order you choose.
