How to Add Extra Cordless Handsets to Your InfoWest Phone
If you already have an InfoWest home phone with cordless service, adding extra handsets is an easy way to extend coverage throughout your home. Extra handsets let you answer calls from multiple rooms without needing additional phone jacks or separate phone lines. Here’s how to get started.
Step 1: Charge the New HandsetBefore pairing the handset:
Insert the rechargeable batteries (if they are not pre-installed)
Place the handset on its charger
Allow it to charge fully
Most manufacturers recommend charging for at least 7–16 hours before first use.
Step 2: Put the Base Station in Registration Mode
To connect the new handset, the main base station must be ready to accept it.
On most cordless phone systems:
Locate the “Find Handset,” “Register,” or “Locator” button on the main base
Press and hold the button for several seconds
A light may begin flashing or the system may beep to indicate registration mode
Every manufacturer is slightly different, so consult your phone manual if needed.
Step 3: Register the New Handset
Once the base is in registration mode:
Turn on the new handset
Open the handset menu
Select:
Register Handset
Registration
or Add Handset
The handset will begin searching for the base station.
Some systems may ask for a PIN. The default PIN is often:
0000
or 1234
After a few moments, the handset should confirm successful registration.
Step 4: Test the Handset
Once connected:
Make a test call
Verify dial tone and audio quality
Check that incoming calls ring on the new handset
Your extra handset should now work anywhere within range of the base station.
Troubleshooting Tips
If the handset will not connect:
Restart both the base station and handset
Move closer to the base during registration
Verify compatibility between models
Ensure the batteries are fully charged
Double-check the registration PIN
If problems continue, the phone system may already have the maximum number of supported handsets registered.
