InfoWest respects copyright and expects its customers to do the same. Our Acceptable Use Policy prohibits using InfoWest service to copy or share copyrighted work without permission. This page explains how we handle copyright complaints, what to do if we forwarded one to you, and how copyright owners can reach us.
This page is information, not legal advice. FIF St. George, LLC (dba InfoWest) provides the service it describes.

How copyright complaints work
We do not watch what you download or share. Copyright owners and the companies they hire do: they monitor file-sharing networks such as BitTorrent and record the IP address, date, and time for each copy of their work they find shared. When the IP address is ours, they send us a complaint.
We match the IP address and time to the account using that address and forward the complaint to the email address on that account. The copyright owner does not learn who you are from this. They see only an IP address.

What a notice means
A copyright owner, or a company working for one, reports that a device using your connection shared a copyrighted work without permission. The notice names the work, the date and time, and the IP address involved.
What to do
- Find the device that shared the file. Check every computer, phone, tablet, and game console on your network, including devices that belong to family members and guests.
- Stop sharing the file. If you do not own the work, delete it. Most sharing happens through a file-sharing program that keeps uploading after a download finishes, so close or uninstall the program.
- Secure your Wi-Fi. Use a password only your household knows, and change it if you are not sure who has it.
If the file keeps being shared, we keep receiving notices about your account. Your operating system's support website explains how to search your devices for files.
Your privacy
Notices identify only an IP address, not a person. We do not give your name, address, or other account details to a copyright owner or its agent unless a valid court order or subpoena requires us to.
Questions about a notice
Write to [email protected] or reply to the email we sent. If material stored on InfoWest systems was removed, you may send a counter-notification (see below).
Repeat infringers
We email the address on your account each time we forward a notice, so keep it current. If we keep receiving notices about the same account, we may take further steps, such as requiring you to contact us, temporarily suspending your Internet service, or, in appropriate circumstances, terminating it. We may decline to restore service terminated under this policy.
For copyright owners: how to send a notice
Send notices of claimed infringement to our designated agent, as registered with the U.S. Copyright Office:
InfoWest Copyright Compliance Department
FIF St. George, LLC (dba InfoWest)
435 E. Tabernacle
St. George, UT 84770
Phone: (435) 674-0165
Email: [email protected]
The same details appear in the Copyright Office's DMCA Designated Agent Directory.
A notice must include:
- A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act for the owner of the right allegedly infringed.
- Identification of the copyrighted work, or a representative list if the notice covers several works.
- Identification of the material claimed to infringe, with enough information for us to locate it. For file sharing, give the IP address, the date and time with time zone, and the port and protocol.
- Your contact information: address, telephone number, and email address if you have one.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the owner of the right allegedly infringed.
We forward valid file-sharing notices to the customer who used the IP address at that time. We do not disclose customer identities without a subpoena or court order.
Anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material infringes, or that it was removed by mistake, may be liable for the damages that result (17 U.S.C. § 512(f)).
Material stored on InfoWest systems
If a valid notice identifies material stored on InfoWest systems, such as a website or email we host, we promptly remove it or disable access to it and notify the customer who posted it.
That customer may send a counter-notification to [email protected] if they believe in good faith that the material was removed by mistake or misidentification. The counter-notification must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material removed and where it appeared before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith the material was removed by mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, outside the United States, any district where InfoWest may be found) and will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice.
We send the counter-notification, which includes your name and contact information, to the person who sent the notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a lawsuit, we restore the material within 10 to 14 business days after receiving the counter-notification. Consider talking to an attorney before you file one.
